The primary objective of Caddo Mounds State Historic Site is to preserve the rich and varied heritage of Texas through the lifeways of a prehistoric community in East Texas during the period from about 800 to 1300 A.D. Caddo Mounds was an important cultural and economic center in East Texas and a major settlement of the far-reaching prehistoric Mississippian cultural pattern of the eastern United States.
Caddo Mounds State Historic Site is a
Texas Historical Commission (THC) property. The THC’s mission is to protect and preserve the state's historic and prehistoric resources for the use, enjoyment and economic benefit of present and future generations.
