"...What many don’t know, however, is long before the Cherokee Indians arrived in East Texas in 1823, a group of Caddo Indians had already found a place to call home in the area beginning around 800 A.D. This ancient Caddo village is now more commonly referred to as the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site near Alto, which is owned and operated by the Texas Historical Commission... "
